I heard these stories from Santa’s two chief helpers, Big Ears, and his fellow storyteller, Big Nose. They told me they are all totally true! But before I start telling you some of their stories, first I had better tell you a bit about my informers and how they came by these tales.
First I will start with Big Nose. Big Nose was known as Oscar Tall Boots before his name day. The tale of how Big Nose got his new name is a rather interesting and quite funny tale. It was told to me by Big Ears, but more about Big Ears later.
Now Big Nose is the elf who oversees Santa’s books. Santa as you know has three books. One contains all the names of the children who have been good, kind, and helpful throughout the year. The second book is for all the children who have been naughty, spiteful, and unkind. While the third book contains all the toys each child is to receive. Looking after Santa’s books is one of the most important jobs anyone can have. Santa checks the good and naughty books very carefully every week, to make sure each name is in the correct book. Santa is not very pleased if a mistake is made.
Big Ears is the elf who oversees finding out of all the good and naughty things that children have done. He listens to the things children have said, watches how they act and how they treat other people. Then he reports back to Santa who decides which book the deeds go into. So, as you can see, between them Big Nose and Big Ears know just about everything that children do, which book your name is in and what present you will get, if any. They also know just about everything that happens at Santa’s home. If you need to know something, then go to Big Ears. And if you need something written down, then go to Big Nose.
Now I am sure you know that naming days are not just for the elves, oh no. Santa’s reindeer also get a naming day, and yes you guessed it, they have a party as well. In fact Santa has so many helpers there is a party for someone almost every other day. Reindeer though do not have ice-cream and cakes like the elves do. No, they have something much better, or at least the reindeer think so. Reindeer get their most favourite foods in the whole wide world; can you guess what it is? Yes of course, everybody knows that it is cabbage, Brussels sprouts and the best tasting food of all, carrots.
